Montecatini Terme is one of the most iconic spa towns in Italy, with magnificent Art Nouveau architecture and rejuvenating thermal baths to relax into. Montecatini Terme is a historic Belle Époque spa town just like Bath, and is one of UNESCO's 11 Great Spa Towns of Europe. It is a peaceful haven away from the more crowded centres of Florence and Pisa, especially in the summer months.
The town bubbles with fountains, grottos, and water features, and many of its grand Art Nouveau spas are still in use, including the huge Terme Tettuccio thermal complex. The older hilltop village of Montecatini Alto can be reached by a vintage funicular train, and has stunning views across the rolling hills and valleys.
