Great youth hostel or 2 star hotel not a 4 star hotel

If you review this as a youth hostel, it’s outstanding and for anything around $150/ night this is a great deal. Functional rooms and a well designed cafe/ co-working space. All room controls on an iPad, which works well. Self check-in is very convenient.However, I ended up paying more than $400/night and at that price it’s misleading to call it a 4 star hotel - they don’t warn you adequately on the website. They call it a 4 star hotel on some websites, which is completely misleading. The elevators are inadequate - 7-8 minute wait each time you call an elevator and then it is jammed with people so you often have to wait for the next round. The room was so small that two people cannot have open suitcases. No iron or ironing board, no real wardrobe. Washbasin is part of the room not in the tiny bathroom. They don’t clean your room by default- need to ask them for towels and sheets to be changed. In summary, it’s a great 2 star hotel with microscopic rooms and grossly inadequate elevators. Book with that expectation and you will love the experience. Come in thinking of it as a 4 star hotel and you will be horrified.

Tiny, but quiet rooms

Quiet rooms with good soundproofing, but small capsule sized room felt claustrophobic. The small design is how citizenM is, but didn’t realize that. The queen bed is boxed into the end of the room and you can only enter from one side. No coffee is room, but can get it downstairs. High quality toilet (Gerberit) and shower (hansgrohe). Except rooftop bar with indoor and outside seating. Music was EDM loud so not a relaxing feel but more club vibes. Check in was funny. All iPad kiosks and a worker standing there that is kind of confusing who does the check in.I found myself not wanting to be in the room and instead use the bar or lobby.

Overcharging and no responsive

I usually travel to NY for work and have stayed with Citizen M a few times. There was a glitch in the system and for some reason a few bookings were made for me. I was certain I canceled it but they refused to honor it and ended up charging me for the full 3 nights and when trying to reach out to them, Lukas from their support group said 1 night would be charged for late cancelation. Its been 2 days and I've yet to receive a response from them re the glitch and the fact they charged for all 3 nights. I will never stay there due to the unethical practice and non response. This was not initially a Marriott hotel, so don't expect the same customer service when an issue arises.

Coffee shop downstairs was fantastic, coffee shop staff were really attentive and remembered what we liked!
