Best Gatwick Hotel

The Sofitel is the best hotel at Gatwick by a long way. We always stay here before our trips abroad, it adds to the fun of the holiday. The rooms are well appointed the beds are extremely comfy and its quiet you can get a good rest before your flight. It has a good choice of food and drink and if you fancy something different the Terminal is 2 minutes walk. I like to book a suite and with that you get access to the Club Millésime, this is the highlight of the stay. We have got to know Alexandra the host there she is such a lovely lady and always looks after us. The lounge has a good selection of canapes and drinks, and constantly topped up. If you can stay at the Sofitel and give yourself a treat before your holiday.

The current hotel was originally built as a Sterling hotel which was a mid range brand. There have been a number of reincarnations each moving it more upmarket but it cannot escape its origins thus the rooms are more compact than you would expect for the price. However the rooms are clean and comfortable and some have excellent views of the airport. It is worth paying the extra to avoid a room inward facing to the atrium these being rather gloomy and lacking privacy.By airport standards the buffet breakfast at £20 is not unreasonable. The other food offerings are quite limited and not cheap. There is room service with a tray charge of £5.The hotel is well located for the North terminal and only short shuttle ride from the South terminal. Check in and out times are good.

Perfect overnight before a long flight

Just one night before our flight back to the US. But exactly what we needed, large spacious room that comfortably slept 4 with a king bed and 2 twins. Nice well appointed bathroom. Quiet, AC, comfy beds. Exactly what is needed the night before a long flight. Proximity to the airport is amazing, a walk way to the North terminal, and a train back to the South terminal.Bonus the hotel smells amazing as you walk in. Im fussy and it was very clean, couldn't fault anything. Great for an overnighter, but watch what you order in the bar.

Location is great for the north terminal. I don’t know if the long tunnel connecting the terminal to the hotel is the responsibility of Sofitel or the Airport, but there’s a lot of dirt an the left at the entrance which is a shame. Rooms are fine, great soundproofing. Good reception staff. Beware the bar though, where a couple of double G&Ts cost me £36 (a litre bottle of the same gin costs £23) caveat emptor and all that, but this practice of adding a 12.5% service charge, then leaving the tip section blank - inviting me to add a tip to the tip I’ve already paid, is a shoddy business practice that Sofitel should stop.
