  Want to go back... with Thai food please!

  We stayed recently and the private pool villa was amazing, as were all of the people and service in general. I would 100% go back!The only mark down was the Spice and Rice restaurant was closed, out of season so i can understand why, but we wanted real Thai food and we found the remaining 2 restaurants to be very western or general in nature. I wish they had more Thai food on than they did and i also would recommend doing more Thai Fusion food for the Seven Seas (Western) restaurant as the only people who go to Thailand to eat Western food are devoid of any taste :-)The Spa was also closed being refurbished but they had converted one of the family villas and we loved being beaten up in our Thai massage and being spoilt in the other treatments.Price wise - everything is overpriced... but we went half board so didn't feel it too much, but the drinks were as expensive as going to London which i found odd.These are actually minor points to be honest, the staff, service, location, quality of food and quality of the villa itself was exceptional!

  Amazing family stay in a beautiful resort

  I cannot say enough good things about Pimalai.We stayed for five days as a family of seven in a three-bedroom villa, and we loved it. The villa was beautiful, with huge rooms, very comfortable beds, and a private infinity pool overlooking the sea. The views over Kantiang Bay were incredible.The whole resort is stunning, surrounded by trees, plants, and lush greenery. It feels luxurious but also very connected to nature. We saw lizards, squirrels, eagles, frogs, and monkeys around the resort, which the kids loved. Just be careful with the monkeys, as one came into our kitchen to steal food, but the hotel staff handled it quickly and professionally.The staff were very attentive and took great care of us throughout our stay. Everyone was kind, helpful, and always ready to assist.The resort is built on a steep hill, with one road going up and down, so it is not the easiest place to walk, especially for anyone with mobility issues. But the hotel has buggies and cars available all the time. You just call reception, and they arrive quickly to take you wherever you need to go.Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of good options, including free sparkling wine. We had a couple of dinners at the resort. The à la carte meal at Seven Seas was great. The hot pot at Spice n’ Rice was not our favorite, but it was still okay.The beach was amazing and almost empty most of the time, probably because we visited during low season and rainy weather. We loved the quiet atmosphere. The two shared swimming pools are also beautiful and very well located.There is not much around the resort, but that is part of the charm. Nearby you have a few restaurants, the usual 7-Eleven, and some great massage places about 15 minutes away on foot, or faster if you walk along the beach.This part of Koh Lanta still has a relaxed, small-town feeling that has disappeared from many tourist areas in Thailand. It is quiet, chilled, and very special.Highly recommended, especially for families looking for a beautiful and peaceful place to stay.

  Pimalai Paradise

  Just got back from a fabulous week at the Pimalai resort.Made to feel really special from the moment you pick up the private speedboat at Pimalai's private jetty.The hotel is in a stunning location with its own private beach, the staff cannot do enough for you, they are a credit to the hotel.Rooms clean and spacious, breakfast was amazing.Will return in the future.

  An Honest and Relaxed Beach Resort with Excellent Value – Pimalai Koh Lanta

  We visited Pimalai Resort & Spa as part of a Thailand roundtrip which also included Six Senses Yao Noi and Devasom Khao Lak Beach Resort & Villas. While Six Senses undoubtedly operated on a different overall luxury level, Pimalai delivered by far the strongest price-to-experience ratio of the three resorts during our trip.Our first impression upon arrival was simple: what a beautiful beach. Fine soft sand, plenty of space, a pleasant sea colour and — most importantly — a surprising amount of privacy despite the size of the resort. It immediately felt like a place designed for a proper relaxed beach holiday rather than for social media staging.The beach itself became one of the strongest aspects of the stay. This is a genuine barefoot beach with soft sand and a comfortable seabed for swimming. The water was not Maldives-level crystal clear, of course, but noticeably clearer and more inviting than at many other upscale resorts in Thailand. Importantly, the beach never felt crowded. Even during the day there was enough space and distance between guests to properly relax.Located in the quieter southern part of Koh Lanta, the resort managed to feel peaceful without becoming isolated. Guests looking for constant entertainment or nightlife would probably be happier elsewhere, but for travellers wanting to slow down and disconnect for a few days, the atmosphere worked extremely well.Pimalai is luxurious in a quieter and more understated way. It is not a flashy design resort and does not attempt to impress through spectacle or excessive staging. One of its greatest strengths is that there is very little “more appearance than substance.” The resort felt honest throughout.The property itself has clearly aged, but in an elegant and well-maintained way. You will not find ultra-high-end designer interiors or extravagant architecture, yet most materials and infrastructure elements appeared thoughtfully selected for durability and long-term usability. The overall impression was one of mature, comfortable and highly functional soft luxury rather than fashionable trend luxury.We stayed in a One Bedroom Hillside Villa high up in the hills. Privacy was good, although naturally not on the level of ultra-private villa resorts. Still, the villa felt calm and protected enough to relax comfortably. One aspect we particularly appreciated was the size of the private pool. Unlike many so-called “private pools” that are effectively decorative plunge pools, this was a genuinely usable pool with comfortable dimensions.One very minor issue may have been a slight smell from the air conditioning at times, although it remained subtle enough that we never even reported it during the stay.Service style also matched the relaxed positioning of the resort well. There was no private butler or villa host system. Most requests, including buggy transportation, were organised through the resort app. Personally, we considered this entirely sufficient and actually appreciated the more uncomplicated approach. The atmosphere throughout the resort felt relaxed rather than overly formal.Breakfast was absolutely solid and offered no real reason for criticism. Guests coming directly from ultra-luxury resorts may notice some differences in creativity and presentation, but overall quality remained fully appropriate for the category.We also enjoyed the Thai restaurant at the resort. One weaker point, however, was the missed opportunity regarding the beachfront dining atmosphere. Considering how beautiful the beach itself is, the resort could create a far more atmospheric “feet in the sand” evening experience. There is definitely untapped potential there.Guests willing to leave the resort occasionally should also consider having dinner one evening at Phad Thai Rock n Roll near Kantiang Bay. Especially during a longer stay at Pimalai, it offers a very worthwhile contrast to resort dining.One thing Pimalai does particularly well is offering a complete and comfortable resort experience without pressuring guests into constant activity. It is very easy to imagine spending an entire week here without ever leaving the property. For families or travellers simply wanting to unwind in a calm environment, this is a major advantage.At the same time, the resort does not try to create an illusion of absolute perfection. Small technical details such as visible infrastructure along some pathways occasionally remind guests that this is not an ultra-curated fantasy environment. Personally, I did not consider this a major issue. If anything, it reinforced the impression that the resort prioritises functionality and substance over artificial perfection.Would we return? Yes, absolutely. If we were planning another relaxed Thailand beach holiday, Pimalai would definitely remain on the shortlist. Not because it is the most spectacular or iconic resort in Thailand, but because it consistently delivers exactly what it promises: a calm, honest and highly enjoyable luxury beach experience at a comparatively reasonable price point.Pimalai may not be ultra-luxury in the strictest sense. But as a relaxed five-star beach resort with an excellent stretch of sand, solid hardware, good privacy and a remarkably fair overall value proposition, it is easy to understand why so many guests return.

  Another lovely stay....

  We returned again this weekend and weren't disappointed with our stay. Everything is just perfect and we had a very good 2 night stay. Our room 217 was perfect and kept beautiful by the housekeeping team. Food and drinks were very good and Palm and Rak looked after us well. Big thanks to all the behind the scenes teams who keep the hotel going. Everybody does a great job and we hope to return next year....thank you
