Not the worst, but not a 5-star hotel

    rating23 May 2026

Did not feel like a full-service hotel, let alone a 5-star hotel. This isn't to say it's a bad property but should probably be advertised as a serviced apartment or "apart-hotel" without kitchens or laundry facilities. The service varies but the woman who checked me in was nice, some staff were less pleasant. One porter (Josef) was very rude and told me to go to a pharmacy at 8pm when in fact it closed at 5.30. In room dining was terrible and very overpriced. The rooms were huge but I didn't like them as some of the buttons, locks and other amenities were hard to use and the room felt worn. Location wise it was good. I saw very few guests and was thankful of its quietness. The hotel didn't have much amenities but the prices were reasonable Melanie Brandenburger, Gästeservice/Empfang at Hotel Alden Splugenschloss Zurich - Leonardo Limited Edition, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you very much for your detailed feedback. We are pleased to hear that you appreciated the quiet atmosphere, the spacious rooms, the location, and the reasonable pricing. It is also good to know that you had a positive check-in experience and that parts of our team made a friendly impression. At the same time, we are sorry that other aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations, including room service, the condition of some in-room features, and your overall impression of the hotel’s category and amenities. Your comments are very valuable and will be shared with the relevant departments for review and improvement.Regarding your comment about a staff interaction, we would like to clarify that this situation has been reviewed internally. The team member in question is normally known for being very helpful and friendly. In this case, he assisted you in finding the nearest pharmacy and even accompanied you to the corner. Unfortunately, the pharmacy was already closed at that time, which led to understandable frustration. We regret any misunderstanding that may have arisen from this situation.Thank you again for your honest feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again in the future for a more seamless stay.Kind regardsMelanie BrandenburgerCluster Guest Relations Manager

    Good experience.

It's a small boutique hotel. We weren't aware of that when we booked, but absolutely top-notch service. Nothing to complain, would highly recommend. Outstanding service in a lovely hotel

    rating17 Aug 2025

This is a lovely old-style hotel situated a two minute walk from the lake. We had a Master Suite with a balcony which was huge - bedroom, bathroom with walkin shower and jacuzzi bath, living room with balcony, additional toilet and plenty of space. Everything was very comfortable, including the massive super king size bed. Fruit bowl in the living room replenished at our request. What makes this hotel stand out is the outstanding service and friendliness of all the staff. We left each morning for trips and the staff on reception (including Amber who was super friendly and others but I cant recall names) offered us bottles of water for our trip. A couple of evenings when we got in late and couldn't be bothered to to out to eat, we ordered UberEats. Then the staff saw this they suggested bringing us plates and cutlery which was really helpful. All the staff were helpful and friendly making us feel very welcome. Breakfast has a limited selection but there is a variety of cooked eggs... we ordered on different days, eggs benedict, different types of omelet, fried eggs, scrambled eggs and all were cooked to perfection. We had to go to Zurich bus station for our trips and its a CHF 16 ride in an Uber, takes 10 minutes. We also ordered Uber back to the airport for CHF 36. I mention this because the only thing that we found a little irritating is the arranged transfer on arrival from the airport. The hotel had very kindly sent us a a pre arrival email offering to arrange pick from the airport which we accepted. Everything was fine - lovely big cab and driver greet. Except when we arrived the driver charged us CHF 150!! We felt that was extortionate - significantly more than if we had taken a taxi ourselves or booked an Uber. In future, I will remember to ask the price before booking a transfer via a hotel. In general, in Zurich, Uber is the cheapest way to get around unless you take trams or buses - about half the price of regular taxis in the city. Apart from that, our stay at the Alden was lovely and we would happily return. Melanie Brandenburger, Gästeservice/Empfang at Hotel Alden Splugenschloss Zurich - Leonardo Limited Edition, responded to this review Dear Elaine,Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review of your stay with us at the Alden Splügenschloss Suite Hotel. We are truly delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your time with us – from the spacious Master Suite and its amenities to our prime location just steps from the lake. It means a great deal to us that you felt so well cared for by our team, and we will certainly pass along your kind words to Amber and the rest of our staff. Making our guests feel welcome and at home is always our top priority, and your feedback is a wonderful motivation for us.At the same time, we would like to extend our sincere apologies for the misunderstanding regarding the airport transfer costs. We are very sorry that this situation affected your overall impression of your stay. Please be assured that we have already addressed this matter internally to ensure that all future transfer arrangements are communicated with full transparency, including pricing details, so our guests can make well-informed decisions. We truly appreciate your constructive feedback and hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Zurich in the future – perhaps once again in your favorite suite.Warm regards,Melanie Brandenburger Cluster Guest Relations Manager

    Great accommodation and amazing staff!

    rating24 May 2025

We stayed at Hotel Alden for two nights, and the concierge and staff were extremely friendly—I can't emphasise that enough. We booked a standard room but received a free upgrade to a room with a balcony, which was amazing. The room was spacious and super clean. The only downside is that they provide only one key for the room, and the power outlets should be updated to accommodate C-type cables, not just USB power ports. Melanie Brandenburger, Gästeservice/Empfang at Hotel Alden Splugenschloss Zurich - Leonardo Limited Edition, responded to this review Dear zazd7,Thank you very much for your wonderful feedback and for choosing Hotel Alden for your stay. We’re thrilled to hear that our team, especially the concierge, made such a positive impression and that you enjoyed the complimentary upgrade to a spacious and clean room with a balcony.Regarding the single key policy, we understand this can be inconvenient and appreciate your understanding. Concerning the power outlets, please note that in Switzerland, we use the standard Type J plugs, which may differ from the Type C plugs used elsewhere. We recommend bringing an appropriate adapter to ensure your devices can be easily connected. Alternatively you can also borrow one at reception.Your feedback is invaluable, and we will certainly share your comments with our team as we strive to enhance the guest experience. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit!Warm regards,Melanie BrandenburgerCluster Guest Relations Manager
