Rude service by live counter chef

    rating18 Jun 2026

Stayed here recently and the breakfast experience was let down by the attitude at the live omelette counter. The chef (introduced to me by the hostess as Nick) was rude when I asked for a Spanish omelette - questioned what it was, then responded curtly with "you just need an omelette" when I explained the ingredients (cheese, tomato, onion, capsicum). The tone throughout was dismissive and unnecessary for a guest-facing role. Hotel facilities are otherwise fine, but this kind of attitude at the breakfast counter shouldn't be the norm at a Crowne Plaza property.

Disappointing stay -- service, room setup, and double-deducted deposit

    rating27 May 2026

We stayed two nights at Crowne Plaza Zürich (18-20 May 2026) before flying home to Singapore. The experience fell well short of what we expect from an IHG / Crowne Plaza property, and we left with an unresolved billing matter. I'm sharing this with photos so future guests can make an informed choice.Room -- makeshift bed setupOur twin beds had been pulled out from the headboards and pushed against opposite side walls as a makeshift arrangement, leaving us sleeping in a visibly cramped configuration (see photos). The TV was mounted on an unusual pole at the foot of the bed which crowded the small room further. Bedding was sparse -- loose duvets with no proper duvet cover or top sheet. Furnishings, carpet and overall décor were noticeably dated.Check-in and front desk serviceCheck-in was lengthy and contained errors. The staff member I dealt with -- I believe his name was Mars -- was curt and dismissive when I asked for directions. A similar interaction occurred the following day with another staff member named Chinos. Most notably, we observed visibly warmer and more attentive treatment being given to other guests at the same desk during the same period -- an uncomfortable pattern worth flagging to management. Most serious issue -- DOUBLE-DEDUCTED security depositAt check-in our security deposit was deducted from my card twice. At checkout on 20 May 2026 only one of those two deductions was reversed. The second hold remained pending on my card for over a week. After I emailed the hotel formally on 24 May, the Operations Manager replied a few days later confirming the second authorization had finally been released -- without acknowledging that the double-deduction had occurred in the first place, and without offering any goodwill gesture for the inconvenience caused to an international guest who had already left Switzerland.📍 PositivesConvenient access to Zurich Airport via Altstetten S-Bahn station. That's it.Bottom line: there are better-value 4-star options in Zurich. I'd recommend future travelers look elsewhere until this property invests in service training, room standards, and billing accuracy. Poor experience and underhand tactics to upsell

    rating18 May 2026

We booked this as a package with British Airways (in Sep.25) and asked for a double room. On arrival in May.26 we were told that we had a twin room allocated to us. I explained that we had specifically asked for a Double room and the receptionist said that they had no such request. If we wanted a double room we would need to upgrade and pay an additional 35CHF per night. After a few minutes and having shown the booking conformation, they said that they could reduce the charge to 20CHF and then eventually reduced to 10CHF per night.During the holiday we contacted BA who immediately said that they could see the request on their system and would again email the person responsible for the Hotel to ensure this was not charged. BA were superb in handling the matter. On checkout, I enquired whether they (the hotel) had received the email from BA about the booking and was simply told there was no email and that we had 'agreed to the upgrade' so we had to pay the additional charge. We were then also told that the rooms are only allocated to guests the night before arrival, and if there are no double rooms available, then an upgrade had to be paid for. SO much for taking the money to make the reservation months ago, but not allocating the customer requests! This was simply an underhand way of squeezing more money for a booking that was made months ago and spoilt the 30-year anniversary visit that had been planned. No apology offered, and instead, simply asked, WOULD YOU LIKE TO CHARGE THIS TO YOUR CARD?Be on your guard on arrival for the sneaky tactics and if you do make a booking, ensure that you contact the hotel in advance to make sure you get what you have paid for. AND GET THIS IN WRITING as they will not honour anything. IHG Service, Owner at Crowne Plaza Zurich By IHG, responded to this review Hello Vims247,Thank you for choosing IHG Hotels & Resorts! Very Good

    rating08 May 2026

I stayed here for a few nights on a leisure break between business trips. I generally liked the hotel. Everything that the hotel management has control over in terms of day-to-day management was great: awesome and helpful reception staff, efficient room cleaning, quiet rooms. The stuff that is not so good is structural: tiny TV with no built-in access to streaming services, small-ish room, inflexible temperature control. I loved the location as it is walkable to the town center if you are up for a little exercise, and there are tons of good restaurants in the nearby neighborhoods.

    Enjoyed our stay...

    rating18 Apr 2026

I can't remember the name of the receptionist who checked us in, but she was lovely. She was hugely apologetic about the lack of an upgraded room (before I even asked) as a Diamond Elite member, she made me feel very welcome. Ensured breakfast would be included and gave us vouchers for a welcome drink to apologise. I was understanding given that it was the weekend of the Zurich marathon and the hotel was quite fully booked. She also offered a discounted parking, but even then it came to 18 CHF per day. Parking is directly under the hotel and the lobby is easily accessible from there. The room was a Standard it it was small, but well appointed with all amenities including robes and slippers which could be used to access the health and fitness facilities which opened until 8pm on the weekend. We were able to use the pool, sauna and jacuzzi which were appreciated.Breakfast was delicious, good quality produce, but it was very busy on the first morning. On the second morning, there was an issue with the staff member who said we didn't have breakfast included and proceeded to charge it for us (was removed from the bill on check out) so this was a strange occurrence as it was my welcome amenity as a Diamond Elite. The city centre is accessible by a tram which is approx 6 mins walk away and they run very regularly. Other than that, we didn't spend too much time in the hotel but it was a really nice stay and I would happily stay there again. One little gripe is that I'm still awaiting my points for refusing housekeeping and choosing the 'Greener Rewards' option...
