Perfect venue for a city break

    rating27 May 2025

Very well positioned hotel for a city break. Within walking distance of most attractions with good access to taxis, trains and buses. The hotel is very clean and tidy throughout. The tower rooms provided great views of the city. On our visit only one lift was working but didn't make getting up and down difficult. The staff are great, very helpful and knowledgeable and always on hand to explain and answer questions. Breakfast is typical continental which was very nice and fresh. Hits and misses

    rating27 May 2025

I've stayed in this hotel twice. The first time was: upper floor room, big, spacious, excellent views out the windows with natural light. The breakfast was well stocked and maintained by hotel staff. So good, I decided to book a room again, but the most recent stay was average. Lower level room (302) with windows that faced an internal air draft. Incredibly dark and depressing. Avoid these rooms at all costs. The breakfast room was OK. Not as memorable as the first time: regularly dirty tables, coffee machines that needed maintenance. But the location is excellent. In the middle of it all on a side street, so you can easily get to the hotel without pushing through crowds of people. Isabel Rodriguez Fernandez, General Manager at Petit Palace Alcala, responded to this review Dear Freedom1091790802Thank you for choosing again the Petit Palace Alcala to stay during your stay in Madrid and for taking the time to comment on your stay with us and the rest of the users. We are glad that the location was to your liking and we will review what you said about the breakfast room. On the first occasion the room you booked was a standard double whereas this time you booked a small double which as stated in your description are small rooms, interior and with a double bed. Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back to achieve your 100% satisfaction again. Thank you and best regardsIsabel RodriguezHost Petit Palace Alcala 91 532 19 01

    Great location but tired hotel

    rating27 May 2025

We stayed here for 4 nights as part of an interailing trip. The location was perfect. Just off the main square and easy to get everywhere. Staff were very nice. A small lounge area with a couple of sofas with free coffee and tea. We used it during a rainy day. Rooms were good but furnishing was very tired. Excellent shower and very comfy beds. Cold breakfast items were good but nothing special. I wouldn’t class this hotel as a 4 star based on its looks but it would be a 4 star location! There are better places than this

    rating27 May 2025

A 4 star property, in the middle of the city, high price, what do you expect a good stay. Well the property is so old and it is renovated in bits and pieces. The pathway to rooms are so bad, the rooms are small, and the furnishings are old. The bathrooms are renovated but with no branded accessories, so they are shaky. For the price, this was not expected. Choose a better place. Isabel Rodriguez Fernandez, General Manager at Petit Palace Alcala, responded to this review Dear GuestFirst of all, thank you for choosing the Petit Palace Alcala to stay at during your stay in Madrid and for taking the time to comment on your stay with us and with the rest of the users. We regret that your stay was not up to your expectations and we take note of the areas of improvement that you indicate for future renovations. As you know prices vary greatly depending on occupancy and dates of stay. Thank you once again and best regards. Isabel RodriguezHost Petit Palace Alcala 91 532 19 01

Wish I could have stayed longer!

    rating27 May 2025

Petit Palace AlcalaMadridI'd love to return!1001229857I chose this hotel for a 5-night stay in Madrid based on TripAdvisor reviews, location near the meeting place for my first tours, and photos of views from the breakfast room.NEGATIVES - all minor: The draperies were somewhat shabby in my room (404). Several times upon entering, I detected an odor, but it was gone within seconds and remained a mystery. The bathroom was colder than the bedroom but tolerable. The room was a little dark at night despite numerous lights, but fortunately there were good reading lamps on the wall on either side of bed.POSITIVES: Clean room! A very comfortable and firm bed. Narrow pillows (unusual to me), soft and comfortable. The room heat came on quickly when I needed it. I did turn the heat down for sleeping. Good outlets for charging phone and laptop. I noticed very little noise from the street or in the 4th floor hallway. The room had a kettle to boil water, packets of tea and instant coffee, and 2 bottles of water. Good sized bathroom. Hot shower with good water pressure. Drained well. Suggestion: Add signs that toilet paper should go into the basket.MORE POSITIVES:STAFF: Adelina at reception was very attentive. She coached me in using the QR code for contacting Le Room Service and also provided me with information about nearby restaurants and a corkscrew. Shirley was patient and helpful while I was making payment by phone before my arrival. Consuelo in housekeeping redirected me from the wrong floor more than once. The young men at Reception in the mornings also were cheerful and helpful. Apologies - I cannot remember the names.5TH FLOOR BREAKFAST ROOM: The views of neighboring buildings and streets are wonderful. Breakfast was OK, but no complaints. Admittedly, I didn’t want to eat much before my daily walking tours. Suggestion: Though there are only a few stairs going into the breakfast room, a railing would be helpful.LOBBY: Coffee, tea, hot water and ice are available 24/7. Mid-day there were also small pastries, probably from breakfast, but the ones I had were fresh and tasty.LOCATION: The hotel is a few feet from the corner of Calle de Alcala, a main street. I loved walking everywhere even in the rain. Quite a few streets were blocked with large cement humps and open only to pedestrians and occasional slow-moving police cars. Meeting places for my tours were all within a short walk: Puerta Del Sol less than 10 minutes; Plaza Mayor and the Prado Museum each about 15 minutes.NEARBY RESTAURANTS: VIPS on Alcala at the corner. Just beyond it was GINO’s, down a lot of stairs, cozy but very noisy when I was there on a Sunday late afternoon. Also turning right out of the hotel and about 200’ up the street was BRESCA.I bought some good wine (3 E) at a grocery store just beyond Bresca. In fact, I had been happily drinking excellent, inexpensive red wine for a month. I think all were Rioja. Light and good!MISCOne of my guides noted that it is safe to drink the water in Madrid.Because of an emphasis by the hotel on being pet friendly, I had some concern about pet hair in the room. However, I noticed no sign of pets at all. Note: The odor I mentioned above did not seem associated with pets and, as I said, it didn’t last.Umbrellas can be borrowed but I didn’t think to request one early enough so I bought one in the Puerta de Sol before my first tour. It rained on and off for most of my stay. Umbrellas and ponchos were for sale all over, though. The length of my stay reserved through Booking.com allowed me a complimentary taxi from the airport. I surprised myself by actually completing the arrangements online. The driver from Taxi Madrid Airport was right on time. For my return trip to the airport, the hotel called a taxi, and the fixed rate was 33 E.I loved walking in Madrid and used no public transportation.NOTE ABOUT THE HOTEL ELEVATORS: I had read a couple of reviews complaining about the size of the hotel elevators. They are small but adequate. The one at the entrance, though, is easy to miss! If you need to avoid the stairs, upon arrival, ring hotel doorbell. The glass door slides to the left. Take one (1) step inside. STOP. On your right is an elevator to the lobby floor, where there are 2 additional elevators to the upstairs floors. Or from the front door, you can walk up about 12 stairs to Reception. Check in there and take about 12 more stairs to the lobby level and find the 2 additional elevators. In other words, Reception and the lobby/coffee area are sort of split level. I think Reception is accessible only by stairs unless there’s a hidden service elevator.I would stay at this hotel again! Isabel Rodriguez Fernandez, General Manager at Petit Palace Alcala, responded to this review Dear wkturtleThank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review. It’s lovely to know that the views, location, and little touches like the tea station and quiet room made a difference. We really do hope you’ll return one day — and hopefully stay a little longer next time.
