    Lovely stay at Hotel52

    rating13 Mar 2026

I arrived in Playa del Carmen from the airport by ADO bus, which drops you right in the touristic part of town. From there, I decided to walk to the hotel — it took about 30 minutes up to Calle 52. It’s a straightforward walk and a nice way to get your bearings if you don’t mind stretching your legs after travelling. When I arrived at Hotel 52, I was warmly greeted by the receptionist, who clearly explained everything I needed to know — check-in and check-out times, breakfast hours, facilities, and how to find my room. The only extra cost was a local tax of around 85 Mexican pesos per night, which is standard and not something controlled by the hotel. The room itself was lovely — very spacious, with beautiful wooden furniture that gave it a warm, welcoming feel. The shower was excellent (always important!), and I especially loved the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a leafy yard filled with trees. It felt peaceful and private.Up on the fifth floor, you’ll find both the breakfast area and the pool terrace. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 11:30, and the restaurant stays open until around 1:00 pm if you fancy a snack later. There are three main breakfast options: omelette, pancakes, or a Mexican breakfast. I had the omelette both mornings and really enjoyed it. It comes with a plate of fresh fruit, and you can help yourself to coffee, tea, and juice. On the other side of the terrace is a lovely pool area with sunbeds. When I was there, it wasn’t busy at all, so I could easily choose my spot and relax. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy the atmosphere.A nice bonus is that you’re allowed to bring your own drinks up to the rooftop after the restaurant closes (as long as it’s not glass). So if you have a can of beer, a Red Bull, or your own water bottle or flask, that’s completely fine. The pool area closes at 10 pm, and they’re clear about no glass in the pool area — very reasonable.Everyone at the hotel was super friendly and always smiling, which really adds to the experience. The location is also excellent. It’s very close to 5th Avenue (Quinta Avenida), where everything is happening, but towards the quieter end. The further south you go, the busier and more expensive it tends to get. So this is a great balance — close enough to the action, but with more affordable places around.Overall, I really, really enjoyed my stay. Great value, lovely atmosphere, and a perfect base for exploring Playa del Carmen. I’d happily stay here again.

It is impossible to sleep in this hotel

    rating09 Dec 2025

It is impossible to sleep in this hotel. I must book another hotel and leave my money here. The reception rooms are actually very nice. However, right across the street is a building rented out to the local Mafia for parties. Every day at 8, 9, or 10 p.m., loud music starts, pounding the windows; you can't sleep there. The music plays every day from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. Everything in the room is shaking. When I asked to call the police, the receptionist said the police can't do anything about it. I can't recommend it. And you, because the best you can do is a hostel, where you pass out and don't hear anything. But if you want a comfortable stay, it's impossible to stay in this department. I had to leave my books and book another hotel. To top it all off, one day a group of thirty local Mexicans arrived, screaming in the stairs, in the restaurant hallways, and everywhere. We listened to it all night. It was simply an impossible place to be alive

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT stay here

    rating26 Nov 2024

Don't let the pictures and the website fool you.We went as a family to stay in the "master suite", which was 3 rooms joined together but with one external room key. Our booking was for 7 nights, but we left after the first night and the hotel refuses to respond to my requests for some sort of refund.Basic expectations were non-existent.- Coffee and tea in room. Nope.- AC working in all 3 "sub-rooms". Nope.- WiFi in room. Nope.- Soap in room. Nope.- Tiny beds. Yep. Seriously, these beds are something like 5'10 in length. Certainly not queen size.- Clean room. Nope.- English speaking. Nope. I have no problems with hotels that don't speak English in this area, but don't advertise to English tourists and then be unable to communicate. The toilet seats were the cheapest plastic ever. Sitting down earns you a tap on the back from the seat, and a little ride on the loose toilet mounting. The barn style bathroom doors seem nice, but don't have handles. All the windows still had tape on them from transport.Breakfast was also an interesting experience. You need to just push your way onto a shared table and then hope that some food will be delivered to you. Once again, this is probably a cultural difference which is fine, but it would be nice to know before hand. Also, nobody at breakfast spoke any English. The food was so-so.Take a look at these pictures and let them speak for themselves. The modern concrete look is simply lazy and cheap.

THE UGLIEST HOTEL ON THE YUCATAN PENINSULA

    rating02 Apr 2024

A purely concrete style hotel like a prison without any decoration or charm. No floor tiles, parquet or carpeting. The floors were painted a long time ago, but now they are scratched, damaged and ugly. The bedroom and bathroom doors were painted a long time ago and never repainted. As nothing in this hotel has ever been renovated or repainted. The bathroom is moldy, the drain smells and the floor is scratched. The sink and mirror are not in the bathroom, but by the front door of the room. The room should have a normal wardrobe. The floor of the room is also scratched with a large stain that the cleaners did not bother to clean well. The rooms do not have a refrigerator, which is a big disadvantage in a destination with a warm climate. The stairs leading to the terrace where breakfast is served are dirty with bird droppings and during the 5 days of stay in the hotel they were not cleaned even once. Not at all nice when you go to breakfast. The breakfast they serve is miserable and the same omelet every day.The dishes were damaged and the staff did not react to my complaint as if it was a problem. The friendliness of the hotel staff is also not high.I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.I am attaching pictures of the damage and dirt in the hotel as clear evidence.

    Good hotel

    rating30 Jul 2023

Nice new hotel located on 5th & 52nd street, little far from the main areas on 5th, but the walk was good when it was cool not during the hot day, hotel was clean and nice, AC worked perfect, bed/pillow was great, the only downside for me was the following: No Umbrella or shade in the pool, it was full 100% sun, not everyone wants to bake in the sun, atleast a small roof over a certain part of the actual pool for some shade while in the pool.No hair dryer. No do not disturb signs available to use.No blackout curtains.Little to no storage space for your clothes.Phone didn't work to call the front desk.No AC in the elevator so it was HOT like an oven while in it.
