    Not bad

the room is big and car park is big as well. the overall experience is ok. would be better if front desk staffs could speak english. you stay here only if you drive, otherwise you will be difficult to reach there especially during night time.

Adequate, but there are likely better options

    rating07 Jan 2026

Although many of the better beaches (and more polished resorts) are farther up the coast, for those who need to base themselves in the southern part of the main island, Southern Beach Hotel & Resort Okinawa is a perfectly serviceable option. That said, my initial impression was not encouraging: the front entrance faces a harbor and working dock that is decidedly unglamorous. This is not a yacht marina but a functional port with large cargo ships and barges, and nothing about it suggested "beach resort" to me. Thankfully, I later discovered that the rear side of the hotel overlooks an actual beach, and our room faced the "right" direction. I do genuinely feel for anyone who ends up with a view of the industrial dock instead. We stayed in the spacious 120m² Crown Ocean Suite, the resort's top accommodation category. The suite comprised a living room, dining area, and separate bedroom, along with a broad, unobstructed view of the ocean and Bibi Beach. The layout was comfortable and the size generous, and there was nothing specific to complain about in terms of the room itself. However, the overall value proposition felt a bit off; the rate seemed steep for what was ultimately a fairly standard, if large, suite at a midrange hotel. For both dinner and breakfast we chose to dine at Reir, opting for set-course menus rather than the buffet. Both meals were adequate but unremarkable. The Okinawa Ryukyu course at dinner did make an effort to highlight local cuisine, which was appreciated, but including Spam on the menu was a misstep in my book. Breakfast was somewhat better - at least within the context of breakfast - with the Okinawa-themed set being reasonably satisfying. We walked past the buffet area during both dinner and breakfast, and it was not an appealing sight: crowded, chaotic, and visually uninspiring. Nothing we saw made us regret skipping it.Service was generally average, with a couple of avoidable lapses. When we first pulled up to the entrance, the doorman asked for our name, then immediately directed us to self-park in an adjacent lot. Only at check‑in did the front desk mention that Crown Ocean Suite guests are entitled to complimentary valet parking. Given that it was rainy and windy, it would have been nice if the staff member at the door had been aware of that policy; if only the front desk knows, the benefit is somewhat moot. At dinner, the host at the podium greeted us and then seated us in the wrong restaurant. We clearly stated our name and the course we had reserved, so it should have been obvious that we were in the wrong venue, and we should have been escorted to the correct one from the start. We were not there to enjoy a full beach holiday and only stayed for a single night, so these shortcomings were tolerable. However, if the goal were a true beach resort getaway in Okinawa, it is hard to imagine not finding better options on the island at similar price points.

Get a room with the sea view!

    rating10 Dec 2025

Hotel is about a 45 minute bus ride from the airport. The local bus (TK-02) drops you off right at the front doors of the hotel so that is definitely an advantage over expensive taxis. The room was a good size but the beds weren't very comfortable. The bathroom door seemed to want to close on its own. The view from the balcony however is spectacular! Room was on the 9th floor facing the sea. There is a breakfast buffet and the selection was quite decent! The lobby is on the 2nd floor so its kind of confusing when you enter on the first floor and see only a sub-par restaurant. Ate there once and that was enough of that. If you like sushi, the absolute best thing is there is a fish market that is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The prices are insanely fantastic! I kept eating till I was full every day there. If you want even cheaper, you can go at the end of the day and a lot of the places discount their remaining stock. You can pay half price and its still super fresh!!! There is a mall that is about a 15 minute or so bus ride away or you can walk it in under an hour. Expensive Americanized stores. Not really what I want to see in Okinawa. Arrived here last week of October and left a few days into November. On November 1st the outdoor pool was closed for what they call winter. The indoor pool is open year round. Went to the indoor 'heated' pool one evening and the water was freezing. Told the guy who works there and he put in a thermometer and kept saying 32.....no way! 22 maybe. Finally he sticks his hand in the water and then agrees its cold. Eh....since the outdoor pools were now closed, decided to be done with the pools there.

Unsanitary and not foreigner friendly (English speaking)

    rating29 Sept 2025

Genuinely the most disgusting hotel experience I’ve had while visiting Japan/Okinawa. My mom who is native to Okinawa had stayed here with my entire extended family (also native), and she mentioned that they had a great stay. I was completely shocked when our 8F Deluxe room was completely disgusting. The front door and the bathroom door were smeared with some sort of greasy grime/fingerprints. There were crumbs by the bathroom entrance and the closet., the walls had black mold(?)/scuffs, the amenities in the bathroom weren’t even refilled all the way. We then asked the front desk if we could be placed in a different room, and due to us being foreigners (Japanese-American, Chinese-American) and having low-level Japanese, we tried asking for someone who speaks English as we were told that this hotel was foreigner friendly. We were transferred 4 times and had to wait 20 minutes for a staff member to “check the room to see if there’s any issue.” I was appalled knowing that Japanese hospitality and customer service is part of our culture and is usually top tier, and was a bit taken aback that they would question the guest’s requests to be roomed in a cleaner space— mind you, this is the DELUXE room. We weren’t asking to be roomed from a 2F room to a deluxe room, we just wanted a clean room. Finally a staff member arrived to our room and we mentioned our concerns. We pointed out the doors and the staff member agreed that “No that’s not dust, it’s just dirty,” in reference to us mentioning that the dust was also an issue in the room- but we were referring to the lamps and ceilings. He then took us to another room, all the way at the end of the hotel on the same floor thankfully, but it was just the same, perhaps worse. There were multiple food stains on the carpet. One by the bed that looked like tomato sauce, one by the tv stand, and one by the sofa chairs by the balcony. Due to the uncleanliness of yet another room, and my partner and I having a family commitment within the next hour— we decided to just cancel our booking. We didn’t feel comfortable returning back to this hotel knowing how unsanitary and unkept the rooms were for a deluxe level room and service. The staff were very kind and helpful with trying to arrange us a different room, even until the end when we tried to confirm the cancellation of our booking— but the quality of the hotel rooms themselves were just not worth it. It was also a bit hard to communicate with the staff as they only had one person who knew decent English, but ultimately that’s not their fault. I wonder if perhaps it was because we were foreigners that we were given a lower grade room out of the deluxe rooms, as my mom had mentioned that her family had very nice rooms and locals get a discount for their stay, but I really hope not. I could tell that the staff were trying their best to help but ultimately, it is not worth it to book the deluxe room or perhaps stay at this hotel.

Only if nothing else is available

    rating01 Sept 2024

We were booked into this hotel by the travel agent. The rooms are fine, clean, there are only windows either to the ocean or to the industrial harbour. And this is where the downside starts: Location is in an industrial area. Travelling to the hotel from the airport leads you a way you never expect to be a RESORT. And it is not a resort as the only resort-like area is the pool landscape. The pictures fit the reality but do not show that 1. the hotel lies in the departure path of NAHA airport with a plane starting every 3--5 minutes, plus the 2x daily fly-by of airforce fighter jets. The beach can easily be reached but you need to cross a street (low traffic, but a street). The beach is nice, the water looks clean but you can only swim (rather walk) in a very narrow fenced zone. Walks along the beach are short, due to the location (marina left of beach). Staff is polite, speaks English, breakfast is until 10:30 am but the food is taken away by 10 am sharp. Very Asian-style breakfast, do not expect the breakfast buffets in a western style. But you can find sufficient and fresh choice. Dinner choices are the buffet area and a BBQ-area but the prices are in comparison to Tokyo and Kyoto high for 2 pax. Use Google to find close-by local dinner options which are fresh, very yummy and much more friendly. The bus stop is just at the hotel, fares are very low but you cannot use the IC card from the mainland. Cash, credit-card or Okinawa-card are used for public transport. Will I travel to Okinawa again: Yes. Can I recommend this hotel - no.
