    Second time staying here!

    rating14 May 2026

This was our second stay (first time was with family in 2024) and we were happy to return! Excellent location (just a short walk from Kyoto Station, and right across the street from a konbini and pharmacy), friendly staff, and a great breakfast. Yes, the rooms are small but we felt like all the places we’ve stayed in in Tokyo were much smaller! This room did exactly what we needed for our stay (we slept here and stored our stuff). We also found we were able to use the laundry machines, onsen, and massage chairs throughout our stay — you just have to be patient knowing this place can get crowded. When it comes to the behavior of the crowds, I can’t fault the hotel for tourists behaving badly. I’ve read some of the negative reviews here and a lot of the complaints felt avoidable: Yes, it can be crowded but wake up early for breakfast to avoid the crowds (there’s so much to do in Kyoto anyways, why not get a head start!), always have socks in your shoe locker if you’re worried about walking around barefoot, and you CAN ask for a second softer pillow and extra towels! My only complaint is about the WiFi as my phone seemed to struggle to stay connected to it.

    Yuk

I wanted to like this hotel, but it was a rough stay. The rooms were extremely small, and ours smelled smoke-filled with an odor like dirty socks the entire time. We were only given one towel, which was inconvenient. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The lobby was constantly overcrowded, making it stressful just coming and going. Breakfast was another headache — we waited over 45 minutes just to get into the breakfast room, then another 20 minutes in the buffet line. The one bright spot was the shower pressure, which was excellent. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to make

Faint Ash Tray Smell and Bus Stop Vibes

    rating26 Mar 2026

The Room itself was fine, small but fine for the price. Pillows were the worst I have ever slept on. The biggest issue is with the common areas. Hotel was supposed to be Non-smoking but they leave out the smoking lounges in the lobby and on every other floor. There is a faint smell of ashtray in the hallways. The lobby is full of Tour Bus Groups and feels like you're constantly in a bus stop. Service was bare. Tattoos are not welcome, which felt like a hidden policy until we arrived on property.

A true Japanese experience! So unique.

    rating22 Mar 2026

Superb stay! Highly recommend it. The breakfast is unbeatable and authentic. There’s even a rice dispenser! The staff are gracious. For everyone going to Japan, at least a couple nights in a Japanese style hotel gives you a more Japanese experience- from shoes off for the entire hotel (lockers available), Tatami mats, to cleaning your luggage before entering, the onsen experience with multiple hot baths in the nude with showering facilities before and after, pajama usage, and kid friendly kitchen ware, free popsicles and fancy coffee/tea, this hotel has it all! It’s pricey ($450 CaD for a family room) but the value is excellent. The WiFi internet is not very usable (only good for messenging but can’t search the web) but it’s best to enjoy the facilities and unplug anyway! Breakfast can be very busy if you eat after 8am. The hotel is about 7 minutes walk from Kyoto station and there is a beautiful shrine nearby (Higashi). We booked directly using the dormy inn site.

    Hated to leave this place.

Had a lovely experience staying in this hotel. Very clean and comfortable accommodations and the onsen experience was amazing. The meal offerings were a tasty treat as well. The staff members were very kind.
