Excellent staff, not the right location for us and not a 4 star hotel

    rating27 May 2025

The hotel was booked via Jet2 City Breaks and is advertised by them as a 4 star. Positives The staff were excellent from reception to cleaners. All polite and happy to help. We stayed in room 202 which was a good size, super king size bed and a view over the entrance courtyard. Facilities were clean and the bed was made up everyday even though we did not ask for it.The room has a mini bar fridge, safe, hairdryer, and a coffee pod machine.Close to the tram to get in to the centre.Negatives The Jet2 location map shows the hotel in the wrong place. In areas like the shower and some of the fixtures the hotel needs updating. The aircon did not work properly, this was an issue on one night but the weather turned cool and was not a problem due to this but I would not have been able to remain in the room if it had stayed warm.In our opinion the location is just too far out of the centre to be convenient. The tram is a short distance from the hotel but it can take 30 mins or longer to get in using this service. Taxis are not cheap if being used often. If like us you want to explore on foot then it can become tiresome to go out for the day, come back to get freshened up for the night and go back out. There were a few restaurants opposite the hotel but not a great deal else and the area did not feel as safe as the centre to venture too far from the hotel. Using the train / tram / metro the hotel is about an hour from the airport (Leonardo). Tips We used the “freenow” app to book our taxi back to the airport. There is a standard fixed charge of €55 and it shouldn’t be more than this plus the booking fee around €5. We booked it the day before we left and the driver arrived early. The tram and metro are the main public transport for getting around the centre and you can get a travel card or swipe on with a contactless card for €1.50 for 100 minutes travel. We didn’t need to use cash at all but took some as a contingency. At pedestrian crossings the green man is more a guide and slightly reduces the risk. Good luck! Rome is not pedestrian friendly and we found it took the shine off with so many vehicles being allowed on narrow roads. It’s a very busy place and you have to have your wits about you. Food can be half the price by walking a block away from the centre. The Trevi fountain / Spanish steps and other main attractions are very busy. You would have to go around 6am for them to be quiet. There are various small water fountains dotted about which is safe drinking water. At the Vatican they have free ice cold still and sparking water. We happened to go to the Vatican on a day with Pope Leo and it was amazing, the best experience of our trip. We went for 4 nights but 2-3 is more than enough.

    Extremely disappointing. Avoid this hotel!

    rating27 May 2025

We chose Hotel Villa Glori for our couple’s holiday and wish we hadn’t! After a long day of travelling, upon arrival we were told there was a ‘problem’ with our room although the receptionist did not go into specifics. The only other option was to give us two single rooms on two separate floors of the hotel and either we could share or sleep apart for the first night. I was uncomfortable with this option, so we asked if there was any other alternative to which we were told there wasn’t. The single room was TINY and the aircon didn’t work. It was an extremely disappointing first night! The following morning the receptionist told us that as compensation we could ‘have something out of the minibar maybe’. We don’t drink alcohol, and the other items in the minibar were valued at around 5/6 euro on average. So, according to this hotel’s logic, a can of Coke or a chocolate bar is the equivalent to a one night stay in a double room! We explained that we knew the rooms had quite the price disparity and that we felt some sort of financial compensation was needed for this. The hotel receptionist agreed that the service was poor and that we shouldn’t be paying for 4 nights in a double room, when ultimately we received 3. Management didn’t budge however, so in the end we received NO remuneration for this. We were offered 20% off our NEXT stay (?!?!?), so we have to spend MORE money at this hotel to scrape back little of what we are already owed? Again, the hotel’s logic! In summary, if you want to be sure you are staying in the room that you booked and receiving the service you have paid for, AVOID THIS HOTEL. They simply do not care about their guests once they have your money in their pockets.

Avoid this hotel if booking a trip to Rome!

    rating27 May 2025

We booked Hotel Villa Glori for a couple's getaway over the Easter break largely due to the positive reviews that we had read. Having just returned from the trip, I would urge anyone staying in Rome to look to stay elsewhere if you want to guarantee a stay with a hotel who has your best interests at heart.Upon arrival on Sunday 19th April, we were informed that there was a "problem" with the room that we had booked, however it was unclear exactly what this problem was even when asked. The hotel's solution was to hand us two sets of keys to two separate single rooms on different floors of the hotel and to offer us the choice between sharing one single room or just staying separately for the first night of the trip. We asked if there was any possible alternative as obviously we had booked a trip as a couple, not to stay in separate rooms on separate floors, however we were told there was absolutely no other option. The single rooms themselves (Room 304 and Room 404) were exceptionally small. The floorplan of the en-suite bathroom I would imagine was bigger than the actual bedroom, to the extent that we kept our suitcase in the bathroom overnight as there simply was not space in the bedroom. Clearly we couldn't begin to unpack as we would need to move rooms at some point on the second day of our trip.We queried the issue at reception and were offered "maybe a free drink from the minibar" as renumeration; the door was effectively shut on any kind of financial compensation from the minute that the issue arose, and clearly a can of coke from the minibar, although priced at €5(!!!) did not compensate for the issue. We fully accept that sometimes unfortunate things do happen that are outside of anyones control, however the way that the issue was dealt with was, in truth, extremely poor. Not once were we approached to attempt to solve the issue - all communication was instigated ourselves. Ultimately, we have left the hotel having paid for 4 nights in a double room, despite not having this room available for 25% of our stay at the hotel. Credit where it is due to the receptionist who did try her best to secure some kind of financial renumeration, was very apologetic and accepted that the service was poor. Her hands were clearly tied by management who eventually offered 20% off of our next stay with the hotel. In short, meaning that once the hotel have your money, you'll need to pay them more before being compensated for any issues completely beyond your control. We left, unfortunately, with a sour taste in our mouths and were left feeling simply not cared about enough to come to a sensible conclusion. I explained that I would be happy to pay for the price of a single room for the first night, but given that they are valued at a significantly lower value than the double room that we had paid for, I would like the difference given back to me, however this simply was not on the cards from the hotel's point of view and we eventually gave up wasting our time, after having paid another £50 that we owed for the city tax which is not factored into the initial booking.Overall, the presentation of the hotel is okay - 4 stars seems a little generous for the standard of rooms/facilities within the hotel. The breakfast options are varied, however the room is fairly small and at busy periods we found that the room was often full, meaning guests had to either wait for a table to come free or skip the breakfast that had been paid for.Overall, I would certainly never book with this hotel again and would implore anyone to look elsewhere, if for nothing else, to avoid any chance of running into the same issues that we experienced, having the first night of the stay ruined and being expected to pay full price for the pleasure of a room that was not available.

    Weekend in Rome

    rating27 May 2025

Good location although poor street lighting nearby. Friendly staff and nice breakfast. Room was small and clean. The bed was very firm and springs had collapsed on one side so sleep wasn’t great. The hotel organised a taxi which was 20 euros more than the taxi from the airport and the driver was speeding and taking selfies which was dangerous. Overall, no better than average. Fantastic Hotel and good location

    rating27 May 2025

Spent 3 nights here and loved the location and staff. Set back from the main road, so nice and quiet. Perfectly location for the rugby at the Stadium Olympico , which is easy 30 mins walk to the ground. And similar walk to city center tourist attractions.Several bars and restaurants within 2 mins walk of the hotel.Decent breakfast options within the hotel. Comfy room and decent size (room 108) with windows that opened for fresh air. Nice hotel shower too.Would definitely stay here again.
