Renovation Rescue - Not Ready Yet

    rating27 May 2025

The hotel was booked for us via a travel agent. We were meant to stay here the previous week, but they were still closed for renovations, so we were sent to the sister Electra Metropolis initially (amazing hotel), then here when we returned to Athens. Whilst there was considerable construction going on during our stay, it is the rooms and design that are the biggest issues. The good news - the cafe/restaurant on Level 10 was great. Good food, nice view of the Acropolis site, and the staff were generally helpful. Note: we could partially see the drone display by Adidas (now subject to its own controversy I understand). The room we were allocated (room 411 I believe) was not great. The room is very small, with limited space for bags, and you could not pull the desk chair out to sit in it as it hit the end of the bed. There was no water provided in the room (tap water not drinkable in many parts of Greece), The tv remote did not work, the wifi password was given verbally at check in, not written down. When I tried to call reception, the phone went to hold and did not answer after several minutes. Eventually, I had to gown to reception. They advised that no phone call was indicated in their system. At worst, a phone not working in a multi storey hotel could be dangerous. They did provide some water and replace the tv remote, but did nothing about the phone system. There was no fridge in the room (reply from reception, yes we know that!) There are also some significant design issues with the room, including inadequate hanging space for clothes, and anything longer than a shirt/blouse cannot be placed in the space provided, the shower has no door, and water splashes out onto the floor, and into the main room if the transparent glass door is not closed. The washing line in the shower cannot be attached anywhere. Someone also opened our door without knocking/advising first, and then closed when they realised we were in the shower-not acceptable! There appeared to be space for a safe, but not provided in the room on this date (15 May 2025). The lifts were also quite damaged (walls/glass mirror/panel)-for a newly renovated hotel, not a good look. I am not sure what star rating the hotel had/has, but could not recommend staying there Aggeliki Tsakalou, Εξυπηρέτηση πελατών/Υποδοχή at Electra Rhythm Athens, responded to this review Dear Mr. Bates,Thank you very much for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. While we are truly pleased to read your kind words about our Focal restaurant, the Acropolis views it offers, and the attentiveness of our team, we are equally grateful for the detailed feedback on the aspects of your stay that did not meet your expectations. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused during your visit. As you noted, your initial stay was relocated to our sister 5-star property, Electra Metropolis, due to the final stages of our full-scale renovation. We are glad you enjoyed your time there and regret that the transition back to our property did not reflect the high standards we aim to deliver across the Electra Hotels & Resorts collection. Allow us to inform you that the Electra Rhythm Athens is a 4-star property, which as you know has undergone a complete renovation.Regarding the room you were allocated, we understand that the layout and compact design may not have suited your preferences. While the room’s square meterage is listed at the time of booking in all booking platforms, we do encourage our guests to consider a larger room category in the future, depending on availability, to better match their space requirements. We also regret that a mini fridge and in-room safe were not available during your stay — as the final touches of our renovation are being completed, all rooms will be fully equipped, and we’re happy to assist with secure storage or refrigeration in the meantime.Concerning the water, complimentary bottled water is offered upon arrival and replenished daily, and can be also ordered via the 24-hour room service, and found in the lobby at all times. For your reassurance, tap water in Athens is safe to drink, even if in some regions of Greece it may not be recommended. We’re sorry to hear about the issues with the television remote and the in-room telephone. While the remote was replaced as soon as you brought this to our attention, we understand your concern about the phone not being answered. Our technical team has tested the line and found it to be in working condition, but the matter has also been communicated to the relevant departments for further follow-up. We appreciate your patience in this regard. Please note that we intentionally do not display the Wi-Fi password publicly, as it is a private network intended exclusively for our guests. For privacy reasons, the access code is provided upon check-in as we have provided it to you, or available upon request at the Front desk at any time.As for the design of the wardrobe, there is sufficient space to hang longer garments such as bathrobes or dresses, and we apologize if this was not evident or practical during your stay. Regarding the shower, it follows an open, modern layout, but we understand it may not suit everyone’s preferences. Your comments have been noted for our ongoing evaluation of guest feedback. The cord you noticed in the shower is actually part of the emergency assistance system, not a clothesline, and we’ll ensure this is more clearly communicated moving forward. We are particularly sorry to hear about the incident where someone entered your room unannounced. Our team follows a policy of knocking and announcing themselves, and if the electronic “Do Not Disturb” sign is not activated, they may enter as part of daily service or turndown. However, the moment running water or signs of guest presence are detected, our staff are trained to exit immediately out of respect for privacy. If this was not handled correctly, please accept our sincere apologies. We also acknowledge your comments on the condition of the lifts. Some finishing touches were still being addressed in our opening days, and we agree this is not the impression we want to leave with our guests. The matter has since been resolved to match the standards of the rest of the hotel. We genuinely appreciate both your compliments and your constructive remarks. Feedback like yours helps us improve and align every detail with the expectations of our guests. We would welcome the opportunity to personally handle the details of any future stay and ensure that your next visit fully reflects the warmth, quality, and care the Electra Rhythm Athens is known for.Kind regards,
