Too Many “Misunderstandings” for a 5-Star Hotel

    rating05 Mar 2026

i stayed at JRW Welmond about four years ago and had a great experience which is why I decided to return. Unfortunately, this visit was completely differentTo be fair, the building is beautiful, the suites are spacious, and the prices are reasonable. My suite itself was very nice. However, the service and management were far below what you would expect from a 5-star hotel. On my first evening I went to the hotel’s only restaurant. The place was completely empty, yet most tables had “Reserved” signs and no one greeted me or offered to seat me. When I tried to order a simple drink, a manager interrupted asking how I would pay before I even finished ordering. Another staff member questioned my room number and insisted on seeing my key card again before serving me.Communication was also difficult because most of the staff spoke very limited English, which made even a simple order and paying the bill unnecessarily complicated. When I complained at reception, the manager simply dismissed the situation as a ""misunderstandingThe final frustration happened on checkout day. Earlier that morning, another staff member had clearly told me that extending my stay was possible and even gave me the available options and prices. However, when I returned later with my luggage to confirm the extension, the same manager who had dismissed my restaurant complaint earlier suddenly claimed there was no availability and again described the "situation as a "misunderstanding. At that point I realized something in this hotel. Almost every issue somehow becomes a misunderstanding.Unfortunately there were simply too many of them for a hotel that claims to be 5 stars.

A Complete Failure - From the Suite to the Room Service

    rating30 Oct 2025

My complaints are numerous and serious:1. Unprofessional and Rude Staff: From check-in to check-out, the staff was consistently unhelpful and displayed a shocking lack of professionalism. Simple requests were met with indifference or annoyance, creating an unwelcoming atmosphere throughout our stay.2. Disgusting Room Service: We tried to give the hotel another chance by ordering room service, and it was inedible. The food was poorly prepared, low quality, and truly disgusting. This was not a matter of taste, but of basic culinary standards. When a hotel can't even get simple meals right, it speaks volumes about their overall operation.3. Non-Functional and Controlled AC: Despite the warm and humid Batumi weather, the air conditioning in our suite was either broken or centrally locked by the hotel. When we inquired, we were given vague and unhelpful answers. Sleeping in a stuffy, warm room is unacceptable for a hotel of this supposed caliber.4. Dilapidated and Broken Furniture: The term "Executive Suite" conjures images of luxury and comfort. The reality was old, worn-out, and in some cases, physically broken furniture. It was not just an aesthetic issue but a matter of basic functionality and value for money.I booked the Executive Suite for a special occasion, expecting a memorable and pleasant stay. The WJR Welmond Hotel failed on every single level, from the room itself to the fundamental service of providing edible food. This was not just a minor inconvenience; it was one of the most comprehensively disappointing hotel experiences I have ever had. I strongly advise anyone considering this hotel to look elsewhere.

    Unpleasant experience

    rating09 Sept 2025

Once you enter the hotel, you smell the cigarette smell because the casino is in the hotel, and its doores are open to the reception. They have bad room service, unprofessional staff. They serve unclean food at the breakfast(like lettuce and tomatoes are not washed enough!). One day, we ordered a cheesecake to celebrate a birthday, but the cake wasn't fresh, and it has green colour as it's rotten with some bacteria! A day after, we all got sick and vomited a few times. Also, Sometimes we had issues with the door's keys, so we had every time to go to the reception to fix them!

    Worst holiday of my life

    rating23 Jun 2025

I’m utterly and completely disgusted and horrified with this dump of a place. I really thought that an 8,2 on Booking, good photos and $150 for a room ($225 for a suite) altogether is enough to guarantee a pleasant stay - and I’ve never been more wrong in my life. Here’s a list (in a random order):1. Time stopped here in the 90’s: everything is old, worn out and tacky. Desks in rooms and at the reception are full of holes and chips and basically look like they were pulled straight out of a high school, upholstery is falling off chairs, carpets are cut 5cm of the windows, paint bleeds onto the wallpapers, electrical outlets fall off the walls and the towels are fraying.2. Every person working here looks like they are serving a sentence, consistently making you feel like an intruder, interrupting their peaceful instagram-scrolling session. No matter how nice you will try to be, they will always greet you with a face full of judgment and annoyance.3. We went to the hotel restaurant a few times and every time our table was the only one taken.Pasta is overcooked, steaks are overdone (if they are available at all), and when the waiter forgot to bring 2 dishes twice and I called him out on that (on the bill they were charged twice), he brought a supervisor that said that it actually was 2 dishes but brought on one big plate. Also, nobody in this country knows the concept of serving all the dishes together so no one has to eat alone or wait for the others. Additionally, my girlfriend found a piece of METAL WIRE in her pasta (they apologized for that and brought some wine after, but that doesn’t really change anything, does it?)4. If you’re anywhere below 7th floor (there’s 16), “sea view” is actually “industrial port machinery view”, with sounds and smells included.5. Apparently minibar is not getting refilled unless you explicitly ask for that (I didn’t ask and it didn’t get refilled even once). Also, besides soft drinks and Pringles, you can purchase SOCKS. They are proudly displayed on the desk. I’m wondering if it’s mandatory to wear black socks if you want to enter the casino downstairs and this is a carefully designed upselling strategy?6. I can’t post number six as it was an ideological point and according to TripAdvisor it’s irrelevant. For the record, I’m listing all the positive aspects below:- that one housekeeping lady who genuinely smiled at me while bringing an iron- Khatia from sales, we didn’t meet but she was an absolutely lovely human when we talked online- AC is surprisingly efficient- the breakfast croissantsand that’s about it.I didn’t dare to try the spa, and now when I read other reviews, it looks like it was a good decision.TL;DR:Don’t ever go to Batumi. But if you absolutely have to, stay away from this hotel, unless you want to experience a ridiculously overpriced time machine and you generally like to suffer.
