Bitten by bedbugs, lied to by staff, and the room was reused - safety not a priority

    rating27 May 2025

TL;DR:Got bitten by bedbugs in Room 302. Staff initially promised fumigation, then denied it and said it was “just mosquitoes.”Mind you - I had blistering on my face and hands. Mosquito bites don’t do that. One staff member even tried to gaslight me, suggesting I brought the bedbugs from Paris - because the room had since been reassigned to another guest who “hadn’t complained.”(For the record: that’s not how bedbugs work. They don’t feed every day, and not everyone reacts to bites. So yes, the next guest might not notice anything at all.)To make matters worse, multiple suspicious 5-star Google reviews were posted on the same week - including one from a staff member, which the hotel replied to as if it were from a guest.Gaslighting + health risk = not trustworthy. Avoid.---------------------------------I stayed 7 nights at this hotel. During the first two nights in Room 302, my husband and I were bitten multiple times - including blistering bites on my face and hands. After reporting the issue, the staff moved us to another room. We stayed five more nights with no new bites, clearly confirming the problem was isolated to Room 302.That alone was upsetting, but what followed was worse.A staff member Alexandre initially told me the room would be fumigated. However, at checkout, another staff member said no treatment had been done, only “regular cleaning,” and that the room had already been reassigned to another guest who “didn’t complain about anything.”Later, I received an email from management claiming that a professional inspection had been conducted and no bedbugs were found - supposedly within 1 hour of my checkout, which is logistically impossible and directly contradicts what staff told me in person. This level of dishonesty and gaslighting is deeply troubling - especially when it involves a clear health and hygiene risk like bedbugs. The hotel’s willingness to downplay a bedbug report, skip proper sanitation, and reuse a potentially infested room shows a clear disregard for guest safety.I cannot recommend this hotel and strongly advise others to stay elsewhere.

    Would stay again!

    rating27 May 2025

Comfortable beds, lovely shower, and a decent breakfast! Fab balcony and very accommodating staff. Really enjoyed our stay and would come again! For some, they may not find it perfectly clean but it wasn’t dirty (e.g some bedding from previous guests left on a chair in the hallway or the odd stain on the spare bed in our room). Comfortable and private. Lift is a little small but I think this would be the case for most places in the area. Good amenities like the free coffee machine. We really did enjoy the breakfast despite some reviews expressing otherwise. Loved the selection of cured meats and their pan-au-chocolat was probably the best we had during our time… I ate about 4 on one of the days oopsie! Great price and honestly the staff were really nice! Also made good use of the robe and slippers. Felt like our own apartment the rooms were so spacious!

    Cute little boutique hotel

    rating27 May 2025

We recently stayed for two nights at the Excelsior hotel in Nice. We loved our stay here. The staff were very friendly.I did mention to the staff upon check in that we were there celebrating my Husband's birthday and was hoping for a nice room. We got a very small room with a miniscule balcony.Although our room was tiny, it was charming. Spotlessly clean and a fantastic shower on the bathroom. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in in a hotel I loved coffee and water station in the lounge, such a fantastic idea to be able to take bottles of sparkling water up to you room and at the breakfast also. The breakfast offerings were small but perfectly adequate. We loved the fresh bread and the cheese selection. The location is the hotel is great, 2 minutes walk from the train station and less than 15 minutes to the promenade. The decor in the hotel is lovely. We would definitely return here on our next visit to Nice. Angel & everyone our fantastic!

    rating27 May 2025

Had a friendly Welcome, with a great introduction to the hotel and it's amenities including the free Coffee & Water area. The room was cleaned each day to a high standard, feel like magic each day. Even when I slept in and left the room at 3pm still I came back to a beautifully clean room. Each and every member of staff helped me at some point. When I needed a plug adaptor I was able to borrow one from reception, seeing that it was my first night I was also given the best directions on where to go. Everyone was very friendly and supportive and on a solo trip this does make you feel extremely safe. If I came back early hours of the morning I would speak to another member of staff, great conversations, he would show a good interest in what I do which was nice to speak about. It's worth noting the one member of staff really stood out to me his was name was "Angel" always very helpful and supportive, add some great conversations. Extremely hardworking! Thank you all! Christine Stenger, Directeur général at Hotel Nice Excelsior by HappyCulture, responded to this review Dear Burtonworld28, Thank you for your nice review!
