Nice hotel in a great location, but with some drawbacks…

    rating04 Sept 2025

This hotel is definitely five star for its marvellous friendly, helpful, charming staff: all lovely but an especial mention to the receptionist Erlinda, and the waitress Loan. It’s also a good five for the public areas: the garden is glorious, and the 24/7 bar is nicely designed and comfy. It’s also in a great location, a little back from the bustle of the Vieux Port, on a quieter street, but very easy walking distance from the port and everywhere else you might want to go in Marseille. The hotel loses a star because the bedrooms and apartment aren’t in the lovely reception building, but in a range of other buildings along the street, which is a little strange. Our bedroom was in a rather dingy, drab, cramped building across the road, and the room was rather small and basic. A huge contrast to the public rooms. Also, one day at breakfast they seemed to have run out of a lot of things that weren’t being replaced quickly enough. It’s a shame, because the wonderful staff generally work their socks off! I would come back, but I’d choose my room carefully. Fanny Sauvage, Propriétaire at Hotel Maison Montgrand Vieux Port, responded to this review hello, we thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Our rooms are indeed located in annex buildings as specified on all the websites. We did not have the opportunity to acquire the entire mansion so charming and only manage the ground floor for our living spaces. We are nevertheless doing our utmost to welcome you in the best conditions. We hope to see you again soon.Montgrand team.

    Unexpectedly lovely

    rating08 Jul 2025

I booked the Montgrand with only afew weeks to go before our first visit to Marseille and just needed somewhere decent and safe to stay. On arrival , very warm welcome and what a gorgeous old building !!Cute little bar, lots of lovely seating but the best bit ; the beautiful garden which proved great respite during the heatwave!!Our room was in a building next door- much bigger than expected, huge bed , great air con and looked out onto a little garden courtyard where we sat every morning. We never have hotel breakfast so popped out to a little bakery round the corner open at 8am and enjoyed our tranquil space. Would have been nice to have more tea/coffee sachets in the room but there were coffee options in the hotel building. Great location too.As 1st time visitors to Marseille it was ideal- quite an upmarket area- near the Opera with lots of squares and food options but 10mins walk to the port area too. A sign of a good hotel is when you look forward to returning to it after a hot day out and sitting in a beautiful garden - beautiful Fanny Sauvage, Propriétaire at Hotel Maison Montgrand Vieux Port, responded to this review hello madam, it is a pleasure to read such a positive feedback, we sincerely thank you and hope to welcome you again during a future stay.Maison Montgrand team

    Nice hotel, friendly staff

    rating16 Jan 2025

Nice hotel. The accommodation rooms are split into various places. I was originally across the road from the main hotel in a noisy room with the air conditioning units right outside my window switching on and off all night. Hotel staff then moved me to a quiet room which was absolutely perfect. Very friendly staff who spoke good English and always had a welcoming smile, thank you

5 minute walk to Vieux Port

    rating23 Jul 2023

Really good location to Vieux Port and restaurants. Room in developed town house. Room was clean and comfortable but small with good shower facilities. We had booked the breakfast with the room. The breakfast was a buffet located near reception and eaten in the courtyard. Breakfast consisted of baguette, eggs, cheese, yogurt, coffee etc. I’m not sure this was worth the money but adequate for the start to the days exploring. I would probably stay there again. Gersende Gueit, Propriétaire at Hotel Maison Montgrand Vieux Port, responded to this review Dear Paul,Thank you very much for your review! We are delighted to read that you appreciated the ideal location of our hotel in the heart of Marseille, as well as the comfort and cleanliness of your room. We're also delighted that you enjoyed our breakfast in the garden :) We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to the hotel!

Bad receptionist almost ruined the first night of our honeymoon

    rating09 Jul 2023

At 2 o'clock we were to early to check in, so we left our luggage behind to visit the city. When we came back around 6 o'clock there was no body at the reception, but there was a sign that we had to wait 5 minutes. After 20 minutes of waiting we asked the person behind the bar to call somebody, because we wanted to go to our room. After another 15 minutes somebody finally showed up, when we pointed out we were waiting for more then 30 minutes he started yelling at us ( a simple sorry would have been enough for us). My partner (who was in pain due to health reasons) didn't let this go and called the guy behind the reception out for his behaviour. At that point the guy wanted to fight us and called my partner names. The guy behind the bar came down to cool him down. After a while we got to our room. There we were processing everything that went down, we saw the room (which wasn't great either) and in combination to what went down we decided to leave and search another hotel (Grand hotel Beauvau) which was amazing!!! To be honest, the next day our money was on our account (on a sunday!). Gersende Gueit, Propriétaire at Hotel Maison Montgrand Vieux Port, responded to this review Dear Guest I am going to answer you the same thing as on the other site you left a coment: we have kindly refund your full stay as you didn’t feel your best with us at the check-in. Anyway, we are sincerely sorry if you have felt aggressed when you arrived, this wasn’t the attention of our collaborator. However, the very aggressive behavior that you showed during your very first exchange with him is not tolerated in our establishment. Our receptionists accompany our customers to the room in order to show courtesy and to help them with the suitcases when they need it. Your impatience and lack of empathy increased your aggression and you directly attacked him using very rude language, which we do not tolerate neither from our staff than from our guest. We show friendliness, courtesy, respect and professionalism with our friendly customers, and as human beings, we expect the same from our travelers. Those are the values of our Hotel and we’ll keep making them live. Best regards.
