Excellent Family Hotel
Good beach Hotel
Just thoroughly enjoyed 3 nights at this hotel. Staff so pleasant and helpful. Bedroom was perfectly adequate and breakfast was amazing. We caught the Hop on Hop off bus just a few minutes walk from hotel. An excellent way to see the city and we were able to get off and on as we pleased. Approx cost £53 for two. Flyover Iceland was an amazing experience. Recommend Borg 29 for eating, a 20/25 minute walk from hotel. This is a large food hall with a variety of food outlets and a beautiful view across the bay. Would highly recommend Hotel Island.
Rooms are incredibly comfortable, facilities are fantastic, location is superb, breakfast top notch and the views fantastic. We were very comfortable in Hotel Island and will definitely be returning. We event saw the Northern Lights in the car park!
We booked Hotel Island as it was fairly reasonable in terms of cost and we had essentially filled the days we were in Iceland with so much to do that the hotel itself wasn’t too important to our overall trip. We did not book a superior room for instance. With that in mind, I think Hotel Island is a place which genuinely tries very hard to give customers a good experience but ultimately it misses the mark in a few key areas. Firstly, the safe in our room was broken, the TV worked intermittently and on our 3rd and final night we got fresh towels but our bedding was not changed. Again, a bed is a bed to me but if you are particular about these kind of things this may not be the right place for you. The decor was a bit dated in our room and our room was adjacent to a large construction site where work began at 8 in the morning. Again if you are not used to noise, this may really put you off. Staff were friendly but on arrival pre check-in we attempted to leave our luggage and were directed to the spa reception. It took 20 minutes for someone to take our bags which seemed a little excessive. Location wise, it’s a little out of the way of central Reykjavik but if you get the city pass this is a non issue with buses. I think with a few improvements in the above areas, this could be a good hotel as opposed to an ok one.
Great hotel, such a wonderful welcome, the whole team were lovely, helping with directions, the magic taxi button when required and advice on tours. The rooms were clean and very quiet, tea/coffee and nice fluffy towels. The Spa is great, nice to have a chilled hour after being out in the cold all day. The only slight negative I could give (our choice totally) is the distance from the centre, It worked out £20 each way in a taxi (heavy snow so no chance walking) restaurant food and drinks were also excellent.
Can't fault the hotel facilities at all - staff were friendly, lifts were always available and the room was really modern. Very spacious, really comfy bed, plenty of charging locations and the best shower I've ever had. Breakfast one a morning was great, same option every day but as a picky eater I was full every day. We didn't use the spa, hotel bar or resturaunt so can't comment on those. Hotel is about a 30 minute walk from town, excellent budget friendly hotel that I would reccomend to anyone who is able to walk for an extended period of Time to reach town.
