Excellent Family Hotel
Good beach Hotel
My recent stay at the Tropical Deluxe Princess Hotel in Punta Cana left much to be desired. While the accommodations, including the family room we stayed in, were pleasant and well-maintained, the overall experience was marred by disappointing dining options and lackluster service. The hotel boasts beautiful restaurants, but unfortunately, the food was consistently lackluster in taste and variety. The buffet offerings were limited, and if you didn’t eat early, the best options were quickly depleted, leaving little choice for latecomers. Even the options available for children before 12:30 PM were notably unhealthy. (Only the snack bar open) My disappointment peaked when a reservation I had meticulously arranged for one of the à la carte restaurants vanished without a trace. Despite booking through the guest desk and speaking directly with a staff member, the reservation was inexplicably lost. Despite my efforts to rectify the situation, including speaking with the manager, there was no acknowledgment of the mistake or attempt to compensate for the inconvenience. Service was lacking in empathy, exemplified by one staff member, Carlos, who refused to provide his real name and dismissed my concerns without consideration. The manager’s unwillingness to address the situation or offer any form of compensation left a sour taste in my mouth. Ultimately, the subpar food and disappointing service overshadowed any positives of the stay, and I cannot recommend returning to the Tropical Deluxe Princess Hotel. When it comes to resorts like these, where food and service are paramount, this experience fell short of expectations.
We travelled here with our two kids (3 & 6) and had a wonderful time! There were lots of families with kids. The decor all around the resort is stunning!! It’s such a beautiful atmosphere. We loved that the three pools each had a different vibe and it felt like we were at a different resort each day! My kids loooved the “jungle” we called it. Walking through everyday to see and feed the animals was awesome. Someone gave us a bag of temptations cat treats and the kids had a blast feeding iguanas, ducks, birds, peacocks and turtles. People were also bringing banana peels to feed the iguanas. The resort was extremely clean! The bathrooms were immaculate and smelled so nice. We had the family suite which we loved with the separation between our king bed and the kids bunk beds. Food at the buffet was okay. Some nights we loved every single thing some nights were so so. Still decent food options - just didn’t wow us. (I was disappointed they didn’t serve mimosas at breakfast). We did however love the a la cartes! We had the Mexican, Japanese hibachi, and Brazilian. Kids loved the splash pad/waterpark, kids club area, and playing at the theatre at night for the kids mini disco. *kids age 5 and younger are not allowed to go bowling which was super disappointing because my 3yr old is obsessed with playing 5 pin. We loved our daily visit to the coffee shop and ice cream parlour! We didn’t get to stay up late with the kids but we did get to see some of the shows and enjoy a bit of the live music and DJ in the lobby! It didn’t seem to have a huge party vibe at night though regardless. Overall a great family trip here!
Overall our trip was fun. The resort was nice, clean and beautiful. The natural surroundings were great with the iguanas, turtles and peacocks everywhere. The food was also good. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner at their Food Market which is their main buffet restaurant. We also dined at the Mexican, Asian and Brazilian restaurants, which require reservations. The Mexican and Brazilian restaurants were delicious but I wasn't too fond of my food at the Asian location. I ordered the beef massaman curry bowl but found it lacked flavor for a curry bowl. The beach was fantastic and probably my favorite part of the resort. The sand was soft and the water was nice and blue. They had white cap waves that my kids loved! Tip: wake up super early to reserve your beach chairs! We weren't able to secure chairs on our first day but for the rest of the trip I woke up at 7am and was able to get good seats with amazing views. Some people woke up at 6am just to reserve their chairs! We liked to reserve the chairs near the Beach house which also served lunch. The kids pool was also great. They had fun slides and a wading area perfect for little ones with seats close by for the parents to watch. The other two pools were also a good size and one with a swim up bar that was great. There was a 24 hour sport bar called Kanalli that we absolutely loved! They had good bar food ( wings, nachos, quesadillas etc) and their staff was great and super friendly! Some cons: The reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating is because of 2 things. 1. I really didn't like the open concept of the washrooms. We stayed in the Tropical Deluxe Room with two queen beds. The toilet and shower were separate and had two doors with no locks that operated like a swinging door. If you were to take a shower you need to take your clothes with you in the shower because of the open concept. There was no privacy whatsoever. 2. The service at the Family Market was often chaotic and unorganized. There were nights where we waited almost 10 mins for a table. A few nights we would have to sit at a dirty table because my kids were starving and standing in the middle of the restaurant holding their plate of food waiting to a clean table. Once seated, our table was never cleaned, we never got clean cutlery and we would have to go searching the restaurant for clean cutlery. We would get water but not for everyone at the table and would often have to remind the servers for some water (which never came). It would take ages when we asked for coffee at breakfast (which sometimes never came as well). The service was really unfortunate. We had 5 little kids with us and with the long wait for clean tables and bad service it really left a bad taste in our mouths. We would often have to go to the 24 hour Sports bar to order food.
This is a beautiful hotel. It is set in a mangrove and the nature and wildlife on the grounds are wonderful. This definitely is not a 5*, mostly because of service, but it is very clean, as I said beautiful surroundings and a great beach. The reception staff are mostly unbothered, talking over you with deadpan expressions but the food hall and restaurant staff are great (with the exception of the Dominican restaurant, who continuously tried to serve me meat, even after telling them I do not eat meat). I had a small problem with the cleaning staff, as I returned to my room 1 evening to find my door had been left open. There was no "do not disturb sign" so I had to call the reception (who transferred me without telling me where to;maybe housekeeping?). I had to request housekeeping do not disturb my room until my leaving date. Steer clear of the Royal Holiday reps, in bright pink tees. You will be approached several times throughout your holiday and they are persistent! Trying to sell time share rooms in the Carib Deluxe. A simple "no thank you" and keep walking. The food was decent, and what I would expect from a reasonable 4 star hotel. This is a family hotel. If you are OK with many small, screaming children then you will be fine. But if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful break... This is not for you. Overall I was very comfy, I felt safe (mostly) and had a nice time exploring the wildlife and mangrove areas.
Issues with AC in room along with mini fridge but overall was relaxing .Want to thank Audelina who was a waitress there , always smiling and helping in any way she could !The resort was very clean and found rest of staff helpful and friendly.A la cartes we’re good , buffet had lots of good food but bland tasting at times
