Funchal is very busy but stay at Quinta da Bella Vista and enter an oasis of peace. This old manor house is surrounded by subtropical gardens with lots of birds. The service was impeccable throughout the whole stay. The staff are friendly and professional....you will remember their names!....Leonardo, Marta, Magda, Carine, and not forgetting Hilario....just to name a few
What a lovely hotel. Staff are very professional, friendly, helpful and in most cases, bilingual. Our room was lovely, having great views over the pool and to Funchal beyond. Housekeeping staff visited daily and did a fabulous job making it look new every day. Hotel food was delicious and beautifully presented as befits its 5* status. I cannot fault any of our week spent here and would happily return to this very well run hotel.
Had a terrific week away here recently. Lovely position, overlooking Funchal. All staff were very attentive and never in a rush. Always happy to give tips on what to do on the island or explain the history of the hotel. We had bed and breakfast only. Always a good choice of food and I particularly loved the coffee. For such a nice hotel, I thought the poolside drinks were reasonably priced. Pool was nice. Tennis court was in good condition and we played three times. Rooms were nicely done and spacious. Quite traditionally done. My folks had a first floor room with a balcony overlooking the pool area and with views of Funchal in the distance. I'll remember this holiday for a long time and I think the hotel and its staff played a big part in a wonderful week away.
This is a lovely location in Funchal, up a hillside and away from the main run of hotels. It's in its own gardens - an oasis of old-world hospitality. Repeating other reviews, the accommodation is very comfortable, and the staff all very helpful. Wifi is very good, by the way! There were three dining options - fixed menu in the main restaurant, a la carte in the old Manor House, or eating by the pool. We ate most evenings by the pool - good menu choices, excellent food, and panoramic views over Funchal. Some practical information that might help :- - there are some shops and a big supermarket not too far away - left out of gate, and then left again at main road, up the hill - the hotel mini bus to town was very useful (but a shame it doesn't run at weekends) - taxis are plentiful, and metered trips back from town were between 8 or 9 Euros - we like to be independent sightseers, so we took taxis from the hotel to Palheiro Gardens, Camacha do Lobo and the Botanical Gardens, and got a town bus back. Taxi fares were less than 20 Euros in each case ( April 2024) - Queues for the Monte cable car can be very long when there are big cruise ships in the harbour - you can check the port schedules on-line - try and do at least one Levada walk - the Hotel can book for you from a choice of local companies. So all in all, an excellent break--- and we hope to return some day!
