This is a 3 or 4 star hotel masquerading as a 5 star. Lower your expectations and you might enjoy

    rating14 Jun 2026

Let me start off with the positives. Pros: 1.Best resort gym I've been too. 2. The grounds look gorgeous. 3. Nice pool/beach area. 4. Nice Kid's WaterPark. 5. Bavaro Coffee. 6. Buffet staff are friendly Everything else that you can think of when looking for a resort was below average if not lackluster. This resort should not be marketed as 5 star. You will not get a 5 star experience. We spent the first half of our trip in La Romana at Casa de Campo. The experience was night and day. If Casa de Campo was Heaven, Costa Bavaro was either hell or purgatory. If they marketed themselves as a 3 or 4 star then expectations can be lowered and there wouldn't be as much disappointment, but the training and execution of that training by the staff is usually what separates a 3 or 4 star from a 5 star and this resort severely misses the mark. Maybe the Unique experience justifies it, I don't know but I wouldn't recommend this resort especially if you're booking because it's marketed as a 5 star.Maybe being at Casa de Campo 1st and contrasting that to Costa Bavaro skewed my perception but they're both marketed as 5 star resorts so I didn't anticipate this big of a gap in experience.

    Go Unique or Stay Home

    rating13 Jun 2026

Resort 3/5 Butler Service 5/5Ronald, our assigned butler was amazing. He went above & beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable as possible. He also helped me with several special requests. Location was nice, rooms were in decent shape. Housekeeping was very accommodating as well. The food options, however, were not so great. We were unable to make any reservations prior to check-in and by the time we checked in, there were no reservations available. Which means, the only options you have for the most part are the buffets which get old after the first couple days. Luckily we had the Unique package so we were able to dine at the Unique restaurant of night on two occasions. Still not worth the $85/person/night in my opinion. The resort app is very outdated as well. Some of the information on there is inaccurate.

Stunning 5-Star Property Let Down by 2-Star Service

    rating13 Jun 2026

We booked Lopesan Costa Bávaro after seeing beautiful visuals on YouTube, but our actual stay was a highly mixed experience. The resort shines when it comes to its physical environment and ambience but severely lacks the "soft touch" — the human element of hospitality. The Good:• Immaculate Facilities (5/5): The resort is gorgeous, beautifully landscaped, and features great amenities like a wonderful coffee shop and ice cream parlor.• Gym & Spa: Truly world-class, clean, and well-equipped. The staff does a great job maintaining high standards.• Breakfast: The only culinary highlight. A fantastic selection of food, fresh juices, and desert options. The Bad:• Poor Customer Service (2/5): The service across multiple departments was incredibly disappointing. Many staff members lacked attentiveness, making basic requests—like asking for room water bottles or simple directions—feel like an annoying chore.• Lacking Cleanliness Details (3/5): Dining areas weren't properly sanitized. We frequently saw staff wipe down tables, high chairs, and glasses with just water or wet cloths instead of proper cleaning products, leaving a noticeable damp odor.• Subpar Bar Experience (2/5): There are zero premium alcohol options available, even if you are willing to pay extra. It is strictly local spirits. Furthermore, the bartenders lack mixology training; drinks were free-poured inconsistently and rarely tasted right.Staff Champions: Randy Brujan, Sorangel Payano and Leany from Atlantico Buffet - were among the few standout staff that demonstrated a high level of hospitality excellence.Verdict for Management: Lopesan focuses heavily on its beautiful 5-star physical property but neglects the basic customer service required for a true luxury experience. Management urgently needs to implement a customer-centric training regime, use mystery shoppers, and incentivize staff with bonuses tied to real-time guest feedback. Beautiful resort, but the service needs to match the architecture.

Great Facilities but Let Down by Service and Food Quality

    rating13 Jun 2026

My husband, our 12-month-old baby, and I recently stayed at Lopesan Costa Bávaro Resort, Spa & Casino. While there were several aspects of the resort that we enjoyed, there were also some areas that significantly impacted our overall experience. The positives first: the rooms are spacious, with comfortable beds, a large shower, and an excellent shower head. The gym facilities are among the best I have experienced at any hotel abroad and were exceptionally well equipped. The pool and beach areas are attractive and well maintained, and the resort's landscaping is beautiful throughout. The breakfast buffet at Atlantico offered a good selection of food and fresh juices, and the banana bread was particularly enjoyable. I would also like to recognise Randy Brujan, Sorangel Payano and Leany from the Atlantico breakfast buffet team and other restaurants who consistently provided friendly and attentive service and made us feel welcome each morning.Unfortunately, several issues detracted from our stay. Room service was disappointing; meals arrived separately rather than together, the food was often cold, portions were small, and the quality was poor with very little flavour. In fact, the food across most restaurants was below average and lacked flavour, which was surprising given the variety of dining options available. As we were travelling with a young baby, timely service was particularly important. On one occasion, we had to call room service four times to request bottled water for our room, and it took nearly two hours to arrive. This was frustrating and inconvenient, especially when travelling with a 12-month-old child. The cleanliness standards in some areas also raised concerns. The tables in the Atlantico breakfast buffet often had an unpleasant odour, as though the cleaning cloths being used were not being properly cleaned or rinsed. Additionally, the lobby and reception area had a noticeable damp smell throughout our stay. The entertainment programme was limited, with the DJ playing for only 1.5 hours each evening (7:00pm–8:30pm), leaving very little evening entertainment afterwards for guests looking to enjoy the resort at night. Finally, while there were a few excellent members of staff, we found many employees to be dismissive, unhelpful, and lacking the level of customer service expected from a resort of this standard. A more welcoming and accommodating approach from staff would have made a significant difference to our experience.Overall, Lopesan Costa Bávaro has excellent facilities, attractive grounds, spacious accommodation, and some standout staff members. However, improvements are needed in food quality, service responsiveness, cleanliness, entertainment, and customer service to provide the level of experience expected from a resort of this calibre.Based on our experience as a family travelling with a young child, I would rate the resort 3 out of 5 stars.

    RESORT FROM HELL/ROACHES

    rating13 Jun 2026

This RESORT is SO BAD that we left the resort to come back to TN the day after we arrived! The staff is rude and act like it's beneath them to help you, answer your questions if they even understand you and ignore you!! When we got there to check in they made us wait and put our luggage somewhere else. Then once we finally got into our room it was the wrong room! We were supposed to have an ocean view room. The room had a musky smell and lobby had an incense smell to it. We went down to the buffet and the food was limited, overcooked and wasn't even good! The ocean had lots of boats and seaweed! The pool wasn't impressive and there was only one hut to go get drinks at. Not one time did anyone ask if we wanted a drink! We got into the ocean and came to get a towel and there weren't any towels to get! So we walked wet to our room. The day we got there we tried to make reservations at all the restaurants other than the buffet but they were completely booked for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday! Tell me why please? When we were on our excursion on Thursday which was the best part of our trip and were talking to a couple on the way back to the resort they said did you know you can come to the new Lopesan Caoba Lagoon Resort Spa and is only a 10 minute walk through the boulevard and eat at there restaurants and use there emaculate pools which also has a cave and waterpark. We even tried to move our reservation over to that resort but they wouldn't let us as they were booked. The friendliness and food at this resort was Like night and day! This is where it's at if you want to experience the best for your money. After coming back to our room after being told we couldn't transfer I had already made up my mind that I'd be eating and using there pool the remainder of the time. The finally straw for me was when I was at the sink in the bathroom with the lights on and saw a roach run! HELL NO! We killed it and were done at this point after all the other MESS we had experienced up until this point! We went through all of our luggage and clothes. packed up and walked down to the lobby. We told the guy at the desk we were checking out. He asked why and we told him everything and he didn't even flinch when we told him about the roach. That's because this isn't anything new to them! My daughter went to sleep on the couch by the desk and our luggage was packed and my mother saw another roach go under her feet! This place is disgusting and we also wrote him a 2 page letter explaining everything. HE said we could check out another room and it stunk worse than the first one and this was only to keep people from looking at us and wondering why we were in the lobby with our luggage. They wanted to keep everything on the downlow! We will NEVER be back to Dominican Republic again as the resort ruined it for us. I had went 17 years prior to the DR and it was Completely different. This place isn't what it used to be. Don't stay here if you want to have a great trip!
