Excellent Family Hotel
Good beach Hotel
Our daughter booked us a week at the Royal Park Hotel for our Christmas. The hotel is described as Boutique but it isn’t. There are no coffee facilities in the bedroom and our hairdryer did not work. Our bedding was stained. We were given a replacement hairdryer to use for the week we were here which is fine. However, as a female I do wear make up and fake tan and sadly this transferred onto one of the towels and I was subsequently advised I would be charged for this. In a twist of irony, the towels we were provided with the following morning after housekeeping (I use housekeeping loosely as they do not clean your room rather act as room police to see if anything is unusual or out of place) were in. We were left 5 hand-towels and no bath towels (I assume as a way to subtly slap us on the wrists) with one stained all over (stains by someone other than me). We asked for a bath towel and were given one also with stains. When we took this to reception we were informed that the ‘hotels position’ was to still charge us for the towels that I sadly got make up on despite us being given towels that were clearly stained, a complete contradiction. So in effect it is a chargeable offence for us to dirty towels but perfectly acceptable for he hotel to give dirty towels and bed lining. This has dampened what has been an otherwise lovely stay in Budapest in a hotel we 100% would not come back to or recommend to anyone. Despite housekeeping coming in daily, our beds have not been changed, used glasses have not been removed or the bathroom cleaned. They do however kindly fold our dirty bed sheets in an apparent attempt to make the room look tidied. My husband and I are frequent travellers and love nothing more than embracing new cultures, cities and countries, but this has left a sour taste. It’s not the worst thing to happen in a hotel, but certainly the most petty. There is no luxury to this hotel and the furthest point from boutique.
I honestly do not understand how this hotel can be 4*. First of all I would like to mention that there was a terrible musty smell coming from the room when we entered room 106. The walls were dirty and stained. There was mould on the ceiling in the room and the bathroom was also heavily mouldy, of which I have attached a picture. The beds were small and uncomfortable (but that is obviously a matter of taste) Very run down hotel, would not recommend to anyone. The attitude of the receptionist was disappointing, we kept saying hello but got no response. He was a bit rude in answering our further questions. (I understand her dislike of working there.) I work in a Hotel myself, so I left disappointed however expecting the bare minimum.
4* No way, at best maybe 3, but a poor 3. Hotel is tatty and smelly. Bathroom full of mould, with a glass partition and only a pull down blind! Staff seemed uninterested, totally oblivious to guests entering. Only good point is the location. Many better hotels available.
What I want to say is don’t let the reviews put you off. We had a great time. Staff friendly, room was the same you get in most hotels, area was not bad at all. You do have to walk 15 mins to get to some things or get a taxi which are cheap as chips. I would definitely stay again.
Was sceptical when read some reviews but some also gave 5/5. So was upgraded to this hotel by travel company stating it was four star. Arrived to warm welcome from Daniel who was pleasant and accommodating throughout our three night stay. Room was ok but nothing more, very basic and was clean. No coffee making facilities but did provide a kettle. Had breakfast two days and glad it was only eight euros as not worth anymore. Definitely good transport links to heart of Budapest although district dodgy with guy smoking heroin yards from hotel and another eating from bin again twenty yards from front door. In uk this would not be classed as four star and glad we only had three nights, saying that you get what you pay for. Budapest was magnificent.
