A name and ship steeped in history, heritage, and charm. MS Maud is named after one of the most famous polar vessels of all time, Roald Amundsen's 'Maud' from 1917. Today's MS Maud is equipped with advanced technology making her well-suited for polar expeditions.

It's the perfect size ship: big enough for a range of onboard facilities but small enough to sail close to the coast for breathtaking views and to access areas larger ships can't reach.

MS Spitsbergen

Named after the largest island in the Svalbard archipelago, MS Spitsbergen embodies the history of Hurtigruten's 1896 'Sports Route' between mainland Norway and Svalbard. She is a modern and environmentally progressive ship, perfect for exploring off-the-beaten-track.

MS Spitsbergen is named after the crown jewel of Arctic Norway – the Svalbard archipelago and its biggest island, Spitsbergen. Hurtigruten has a long history of traveling to Spitsbergen, beginning in 1896 with the 'Sports Route'.

After a complete reconstruction, MS Spitsbergen joined the Hurtigruten fleet in 2016. The ship features high technical standards as well as comfortable, modern public areas and cabins. The vessel's fresh Scandinavian design reflects a colour palette derived from the sea. She is modern and environmentally progressive and will undergo further improvements that will reduce emissions and fuel consumption even more. The new ship’s maneuverability and optimal size make her quite suitable for exploring polar waters.

MS Spitsbergen has her own onboard Expedition Team which serves as a university at sea. Interesting lectures inside the ship as well as out on the sun deck make cruising with her an exciting and educational journey. Topics depend on the season and the waters in which we sail. The Expedition Team hosts a lecture programme and evening gatherings daily. Out on deck, you can participate in live points of interest to learn more about the nature, culture and other phenomena we encounter along the coast. In addition, the Expedition Team will introduce you to the uniquely Norwegian notion of 'friluftsliv' (outdoor life), and encourage you take part in 'friluftsliv' hikes and activities throughout the cruise.

MS Fridtjof Nansen

Named in homage to Norwegian Explorer - Fridtjof Nansen, this is one of two fully hybrid ships in our fleet. She brings comfort to some of the world's most spectacular destinations, on board one of the most environmentally friendly ships in the world.Interestingly, after Nansen's Fram expedition, the ship was passed on to another great explorer who secretly planned an expedition to the South Pole - Roald Amundsen.

The newest addition to our fleet will honor the heritage of her namesake – the Norwegian explorer, scientist, humanitarian, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Fridtjof Nansen. Known for his innovations in Arctic expeditions, Nansen led the first crossing of Greenland on cross-country skis. He is perhaps most famous for his attempt to reach the geographical North Pole during the Fram Expedition (1893-1896).

Interestingly, after Nansen's Fram expedition, the ship was passed on to another great explorer who secretly planned an expedition to the South Pole - Roald Amundsen.

Serving as your floating base camp to some of the world's most breathtaking landscapes - MS Fritdjof Nansen is at the forefront of sustainable exploration. As one of two hybrid ships within the fleet, the innovative sustainable technology reduces the ship's fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 20%.

The rugged scenery will be reflected inside the ship through the use of Scandinavian materials from nature, such as granite, oak, birch, and wool that invoke a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere in which to unwind. With a host of public spaces including three restaurants, a fitness and wellbeing suite, a state-of-the-art science center, and a two-level indoor/outdoor Observation Deck. It is an ideal place to scan the scenery as you explore the world around you and watch for wildlife with your binoculars.

MS Fram

Named after the original Fram - the most famous explorer ship of her time, MS Fram embodies her predecessor's adventurous spirit across our Arctic and Antarctic expeditions. Renovated in 2022, she provides a relaxed atmosphere in which to inspire your adventure.

A favourite within our fleet, MS Fram is a purpose-built expedition ship named in honour of the Original FRAM - the world's greatest exploration ship between 1893 to 1912 and has been captained by both Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen during her years at sea.

With 119 cabins, she is one of the smallest ships in the fleet and spends her time between the Arctic in the summer (May-August), before heading south to Antarctica for the winter (November-March). Her small size, allows her to bring you closer to nature - and with key expedition features such as smaller expedition boats and Science Center, she is perfect for creating an unforgettable expedition experience.

Renovated in 2022, MS Fram now boasts a fresh Nordic look and feel across all seven decks, while exploration and learning remain front and centre to life onboard. In the Science Centre, at the heart of the ship, we have expanded the space and improved the state-of-the-art equipment onboard. Allowing for more interactions with the Science team, helping you discover more about the places you visit whilst with us.

Elsewhere on board, comfort is a top priority, so after a day of exploration you can relax in a hot tub, dine in your choice of two restaurants, or at the outdoor BBQ and catch up with your fellow guests with a cocktail in the Explorer Lounge & Bar as you watch the scenery glide past the windows. Around the ship there are numerous artworks commissioned by local artists based around the Arctic, adding an extra sense of inspiration to your voyage.
